The Go Anywhere, Access Anywhere WebOS Desktop
What is WebOS desktop? According to Wikipedia…
A web desktop or webtop is a network application system for integrating web applications into a web based work space. It is a virtual desktop on the web, running in a web browser as software.
Web desktops often are characterized by an environment similar to that of Windows, Mac, or Linux, but are now considered to have much more functionality being dependent on the internet. Typical benefits include the ability to save work and settings over the internet rather than to the local desktop.
For the technically challenged, it’s a web-based operating system (OS) like Microsoft Windows Vista or XP that runs over the internet and not locally on your PC. There’s no messing with installing any software on your PC and all you really need is a web browser. The WebOS desktop looks just like your PC’s desktop but the only difference, is that, you can access your virtual desktop anywhere there is internet.
There are many WebOS (Flash or AJAX-based) available on the web and many are still in the development and testing phase (alpha/beta). I’ve tested out a few and picked three of my favorites. They’re not all perfect or flawless, but they do run just fine, so far. With further development, the ultimate WebOS will rise above the crowd.
Here are three of my favorites - Goowy, YouOS and Desktoptwo. Give them a try, I’m sure you’re going to like it too.
Goowy - your personal webtop
Goowy is a web based application offering free web and flash email service that enables you instant messaging, email, chat and much more with your buddies from AOL, MSN, Yahoo and ICQ. Try out the demo!
Notable Features: Fun Games and Free 1 GB File Storage and sharing
YouOS - a web operating system
YouOS is a web operating system that lets you run diverse applications within a web browser. Small applications like sticky notes or clocks. Large applications like word processing, mp3 players, and instant messaging. Even better, it’s very easy to tweak an existing application or write your own. Try out the demo!
Notable Features: Over 600 applications to install/uninstall to your WebOS desktop, Website Editor, Custom wallpaper
Desktoptwo - You can bring your webtop too
Desktoptwo is a free web-based desktop or webtop (some call it a WebOS, although we feel that’s a bit premature… for now) that mimics the look, feel and functionality of a local computer, all contained within one browser window and fully accessible from any Internet-connected device.
Notable Features: Free 1 GB File Storage, File Sharing, Personal Blog, Website Editor

There’s also GOPC located at http://www.gopc.net - it’s probably the first of it’s kind. It’s a full desktop environment, complete with email services, office applications & online storage.
They also offer shared directory access (on request) so that multiple users can access a common file directory - great for corporate users, clubs & associations etc.
GOPC has a free account as well as a premium account and corporate level account (upon request). GOPC has been around for years and is incredibly stable, secure and fast.
