POD: Happy 136th Birthday Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana’ole

POD (Photos Of the Day)
March 26 – Today is the official holiday for the State of Hawaii to celebrate Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana’ole 136th birthday. All State and City Government and most people will be enjoying the day off today.
Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana’ole was heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Hawaii, prince of the House of Kalakaua, and later territorial delegate to the United States Congress. It is one of only two holidays in the United States dedicated to royalty, the other being Hawaii’s King Kamehameha Day June 11.
Over the weekend, a late-afternoon parade with Hawaiian groups, marchers, vehicles, floats and bands traveled down Kalakaua Avenue to celebrate his birthday. At the Prince Kuhio statue, groups stopped by to present flowers and leis to honor the prince’s birthday.
