Bee Movie - Rediscover Makiki: sunset in the park - Makiki District Park -July 26, 2008

What’s buzzing at Makiki District Park tonight?

The Friends of the Makiki Library and the City & County of Honolulu sponsored the first-ever Rediscover Makiki: sunset in the park at Makiki District Park. The 2-day, fun-filled event featured entertainment, food booths, crafters’ marketplace, various exhibits, resource center, library book sale and tours, pool activities, keiki rides & activities and free movies.

At tonight’s event, hundreds turned out for great local entertainment, ono food, fun activities for the kids and adults and of course, a free movie. Tonight’s featured movie was “Bee Movie”. The movie started around 7:30pm.

Entertaiment included Jake Shimabukuro, Frank DeLima, Powerhouse, A Touch of Gold and many more.

There were many ono-licious food booths by K Restuarant, Slush Puppies Hawaii, Papa Johns Pizza, Mark’s Specialties, Crepes No Ka Oi and others. I had the grilled steak and shrimp plate ($10) from Mark’s Specialties.

While venturing around the park, there’s a swimming pool, library, basketball court and a community garden.

The event took place on Friday, July 25 (4pm - 10pm) and Saturday, July 26 (10am - 10pm) at Makiki District Park (at Ke’eaumoku and Wilder).

There is plans for another Rediscover Makiki: sunset in the park next year. They say it will be bigger and better than the first. So stay tuned.
