The Duke Gets Lei’d

Yesterday, the Duke’s OceanFest 2008 wrapped up a week-long surfing event with a Waikiki Lei and Draping of Duke’s Statue at Kuhio Beach. The event took place around 4:45PM with a lei parade on surfboards, guest speakers and presentations, Hawaiian music, hula and finally, the draping of the Duke Kahanamoku Statue - the Father of International Surfing and Olympic champion swimmer.

Happy Birthday Duke!

The event also celebrated Duke Paoa Kahinu Mokoe Hulikohola Kahanamoku’s 118th birthday. He was born on August 24, 1890 in Honolulu.
