Waikiki Chow Down Showdown
Fast Food. Full Speed Ahead.
What a busy weekend, last night was the Aloha Festivals Waikiki Ho’olaule’a and the next morning, woke up early to watch the Floral Parade. I’ll have photo highlights of the Ho’olaule’a and parade later.
In the meantime, early this evening I headed out to Waikiki Shopping Plaza because they were holding a eating contest. I didn’t eat anything all day, so I decided to enter the contest. I was up against three other contestants (in the qualifying round) and the first two that finishes the plate of Loco Moco, moves up to the next round.
In the final round, the two finalist will eat even more, this time – pizza, chicken plate with corn, pita, taco and a salad. The first one to finish as much as they can in 6-minutes, wins $100 in cash. And yeah, a barf bucket was provided just in case someone decides to let it all out.
Move Over Big Mac
The Loco Moco – sunnyside-up egg and thick hamburger patty piled on a bed of rice, and drenched with brown gravy. It’s a local favorite and Hawaii’s original fast food…without the bun.

So How Did I Do?
It was so close…I didn’t win but came in third, eating it all in less than 5-minutes. Oh well, at least I don’t have to eat dinner tonight.
After the qualifying round was over, everyone headed upstairs to the third floor (Big Kahuna’s Marketplace) for the final round.
If you missed tonight’s eating contest, there’s always next week. So better come hungry, if you’re going to enter. I think each week, they’ll have something different to chow down on.

The Waikiki Shopping Plaza is a shopper’s paradise with five floors of over 75 specialty shops, business services and restaurants. The Food Court on the lower level, has a wide selection of eateries that will satisfy anyone’s taste buds – Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, Subway, Baskin Robbins, Church’s Chicken, Kiwami Ramen, Pearl’s Korean BBQ, Aqua Cafe, Plaza Yakiniku and more.
The Waikiki Shopping Plaza is located at 2250 Kalakaua Avenue, right across from the Royal Hawaii Center.
