After spending some time at the 13th Annual Discover Moiliili Festival, another festival was going on, just 5 miles down the street.

The 34th Annual Intertribal Powwow was held at Thomas Square in Downtown Honolulu on October 4th and 5th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Celebrating the Native American culture, the free event featured food booths, arts and crafts, entertainment, dance contest, drumming, singing and cultural displays for everyone to enjoy.

This past weekend (Saturday, October 4th), hundreds experienced the true hospitality of the Moiliili community with their 13th Annual Discover Moiliili Festival at the Old Stadium Park (corner of South King and Isenberg Streets). Festival-goers enjoyed free cultural entertainment, onolicious foods, children activities (face painting, funky hairstyling and games), arts and crafts and a historical Moiliili photo exhibition.

There were various multi-cultural performances including BellyDance 808 / Hawaii Raks, Yamada Dance Group (Masudai Odori Kai), Phoenix Dance Chamber and the Royal Hawaiian Band.

The popular Country Store sold an assortment of foods like senbei, mochi, fresh vegetables and fruits, artisan breads, maki sushi and other local delectables from the Moiliili community.

Homegrown Celebration - Windward Style

After attending the Apple Store grand opening in Waikiki yesterday morning, I hopped on the city bus (nearly 2-hour ride) and headed out to the Windward side for The 8th Annual Windward Ho’olaule’a.

The Ho’olaule’a (celebration or festival) was on the great lawn at the Windward Community College campus in Kaneohe. The event featured lots of entertainment, island food vendors, kids activities, silent auction, arts and crafts and a whole lot more.

Apple Store’s Grand Opening In Waikiki This Morning

Just over two hours ago, hundreds waited bright and early in the morning, eagerly waiting for the official opening of Hawaii’s third Apple Store at the Royal Hawaiian Center. As the clock winded down, Apple employees marched through the crowd and into the store with cheers and excitement. And at 10 a.m., the newest Apple Store was officially opened for business. The first thousand people that walked into the store received a free collector’s T-Shirt.

The much anticipated film, PRINCESS KA’IULANI was expected to premier next month at the Hawaii International Film Festival, but the final editing couldn’t be completed in time. Instead, the film is slated to be release in 2009.

The film written and directed by Marc Forby and co-produced by Matador Pictures, Trailblazer Films and Island Film Group. Princess Ka’iulani was portrayed by former Hawaii resident Q’Orianka Kilcher, best known for her role as Pocahontas in the 2005 film ‘The New World‘ starring Colin Farrell.
